Saxophone Lessons for Adults

Saxophone Lessons For Adults

By Greger Hillman

If you are searching for Saxophone Lessons for Adults you've probably noticed that most sax lessons online are tailored towards children.

That can be really boring as an adult having to walk through a children book for saxophone. There's clearly a mismatch an can make it boring for you as an adult.

That's why I made this website to help more adult beginners get started playing the saxophone in a fun and easy way.

I mean, learning to play hot cross buns on saxophone is a great start but becomes quite boring really fast as an adult.

You could try to find a local teacher that can give you more tailored lessons for adult saxophone beginners.

However, that doesn't give you the same flexibility as online lessons for saxophone and in most cases those teachers are already busy teaching children play sax at the local music school anyway.

Taking Saxophone lessons for Adult

I've noticed that more adults are looking to take beginner saxophone lessons online today. The majority seems to be in there early 50s or older.

I believe that has to do with the fact that they now are starting to have more time on there hands after years with kids and other obligation taking up all their spare time.

Maybe it's the same for you? In that case you are probably nodding your head right now.

Either way, I think it's great that you want to invest time and effort learning to play the saxophone. You may just be getting started, as a “late bloomer”, or you are looking to get back into playing the saxophone as an adult again.

Benefits of being an adult saxophone beginner

The benefit of being an adult saxophone student is that you can move a lot quicker (most of the time) compared to a younger sax student.

Simply because you realize that learning the core fundamental like breath control, Saxophone Embouchure, Fingering the notes etc. is what will make you speed up your learning curve substantially.

If you're looking for a quick and fun way to get started playing sax as an adult I do recommend my Beginner Saxophone Course. It's tailored for adults and it will have you playing your first song and improvising in an hour.

I know that's a bold statement, but I've been teaching saxophone for more than 20 years and this is actually a really fun and easy going course that many adults like.

The good news is that there are many teachers that offer In-person sax lessons and I recommend that you start looking in your local area to see if there is a saxophone teacher taking on new students.

This is if you want In-person lessons of course.

If you do not want the hassle of going to an In-person lesson you could take  saxophone lessons over Zoom instead. Those are still live and “In-person” but online, which makes it more flexible.

However, the most flexible solution is to take Pre-recorded Saxophone Courses online that do not require a set date or time to get started. This is by far the most popular option among the adults I teach to play the saxophone.

Finding the right difficulty level of the adult sax lessons

I focus on teaching saxophone beginners at LearnSaxophone.com. So if you are an adult beginner you'll find great saxophone courses here.

However, if you have moved beyond the beginner stages of playing the saxophone I recommend that you check out Eric Marienthals Recorded Sax lessons as they are more suitable for intermediate and advanced players.

That being said, I also teach intermediate and Advanced Saxophone lessons for Adults through Zoom, but those seats are limited and more expensive than taking an online course.

Picking the right Saxophone lessons for adults that fit you

The most important thing is that you choose the type of lessons that works best for you.

There are benefits with In-person Sax lessons (on location or over Zoom) as your teacher can spot bad habits and make small corrections as you play. The downside being scheduling and showing up on a specific time.

That's where you can get the same level of sax lessons as an adult from a well crafted online course. This doesn't always work for children, but as an adult you can grasp the necessary concepts and explanations more easily.
