Musician Spotlight: Gilbert Castellano
Meet Gilbert Castellano, an American Jazz Trumpeter, educator, composer and arranger from San Diego, California. He started playing the trumpet at the age of 6 and began playing professionally when he turned 11.
His father was a well known musician, arranger and band leader at the Copacabana. A great influence on the musical path that Gilbert went out on from an early age.
He performed with the late Dizzy Gillespie at the Monterey Jazz Festival at the age of 15 and went on to study at the Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship.
However, these are just a few of the many achievements and goals Gilbert has reached in his musical career. He's won the first place in the John Coltrane Young Artists competition and done several recording sessions with the Black Note band.
You will find him very devoted to Jazz education and he is the founder of the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory in San Diego.
